When I retired four years ago (2004), my husband and I were hoping that we could do all the traveling that we had talked about for so long. We didn't expect those dreams to be a reality, however, because we didn't have a true "home away from home" for our beloved Paco. We wouldn?t have been able to enjoy ourselves unless we knew that he was happy and having fun, too. Then we met Marie. She was and is the answer to our prayers. On our first trip, a cruise, she e-mailed pictures and updates to the ship! We completely relaxed. Knowing Marie has been life-changing for us and for Paco. He is absolutely at ease and happy in her loving care and in her warm and welcoming home. Paco makes regular visits to see "Aunt Marie" even now when we've moved to southern Delaware. To hear Paco squeal as we approach her street, is well worth the trip. I wouldn't dream of planning a trip without consulting her schedule first. Marie has no equal. Paco adores her (and did I mention so do we)! Thank you, Marie! Mary Jane (Paco's Mom)
Dear Marie, As you well know, I love my dogs. They are my children and a very special part of my life. They are family to me and treated as such. When I travel, I need the assurance that my dogs will receive the same kind of care and love. It gives me such peace of mind and makes my vacation so much more enjoyable having them in your care. You have a true love for animals which is so evident to the pets and their owners. You're knowledgeable, compassionate and competent and make their stay exciting and fun. I feel so blessed knowing my dogs are in your care. Please don't ever stop! Nancy - Mom to Hannah, Winkie and Cody
Hi. My name is Sophie Dawg Chrisman. I am a confirmed couch potato. I like to sit on the couch, watch TV, or listen to music. I dont dance. I just listen to the music. I like to eat too! Ill eat anything. When my owners go to work it is my time to think dog thoughts. Its peaceful and quiet. I really dont know what is wrong with that maybe it was because I pooped in the house. We all know that is a malfunction of the owner though. Anyway, next thing you know this lady pulls up in a red van calling my name and wanting to go for a walk. She has no idea how exhausting my day has been. Well, shes full of energy and ready to go. She bribes me, cajoles me and tries to play with me. Eventually I give in, long enough to do my business and try to turn around and go home, but shes having none of that we keep going. If I have to be walked, my Furry Godmother is the best there is. She loves me even when Im stubborn. She lets me read all the p-mail I want and is never in a hurry. Ive spent a few weeks at her home (Bed and Biscuit) and I have a great time. There are lots of dogs to play with and I sleep great at night. I dont get the couch potato time I like, but its too exciting. I try to behave myself when Im at her home so shell invite me back that means no pooping in the house. So far it has worked, she keeps coming to visit and I still get my vacation at her house. When your owners are looking for a vacation for you or someone nice to come by and walk you, tell them about my Furry Godmother. Tell them Sophie the Queen of The Couch, says shes awesome, the best and my favorite place to visit. Sincerely, Sophie Dawg Chrisman
Moving to Pennsylvania, I desperately needed a very special sitter for my two precious toy poodles, Sugar and Spice. My vet's office suggested "The Furry Godmother". I loved the name and began my investigation. I was so impressed. Marie is a loving, caring, sensitive lady who treats the dogs in her care like her very own. She keeps a record of what they eat, the medications they are on, and what time they go to sleep. They run and play and have a great time interacting with the others. It reminds me of doggie day camp. Everyone is happy. Our first visit was a huge success and the second one was even better. They ran to her front door anxious to see their new and old friends. And they still do. They get so excited when they see the suitcases come out. I have absolutely no guilt when I leave them as I know they are having a wonderful time and are very well loved and cared for in this happy and loving home. Making it even more special, I get pictures of Sugar and Spice having lots of fun. I now have a picture diary of them which I add to my own pictures of when I travel. So nice for all of us to have happy memories. Thank you, Furry Godmother. Connie - Mom of Sugar & Spice
Imagine an adorable Maltese puppy named Lily who is cute, vivacious, spunky and loveable. In the short time that she has been part of our family, she has brought joy and laughter to our lives. She receives lots of affection and attention from my two daughters, my husband as well as myself. Now imagine the panic that sets in when we realize that we need to find care for Lily when we go away on vacation! Who will ever care for her like we do? Well, enter the most amazing pet sitter named Marie Ford, the Furry Godmother! As we drive up to Marie's house, Lily's tail begins to wag with excitement because she knows all of her doggie friends are just waiting for her to play. And play they do! Lily has been fortunate enough to stay with Marie several times and it is like going to grand mom's house. She even allows the dogs to relax on her comfy furniture! Lily plays with the other dogs, new toys, Marie and Jim. Marie will even take the time to send photos through email so that I can be reassured that Lily is doing great. Without question, Marie is caring, loving, and dedicated to her dogs. After each visit, Marie always encloses some kind of special treat or toy for your dog. She definitely exceeded my expectations of a pet sitter! I am so fortunate and appreciative every time Lily goes for a stay! Sincerely,
Dear Marie, Thank you once again for taking such good care of Gwenabwy while we were away! I just sent another message to Melinda Berger, our dog training instructor, thanking her for recommending you 3 years ago (2005)! At that time, Gwenabwy was still a puppy and I couldn't imagine leaving her in a kennel for any reason. Nor could I imagine leaving her home alone with a pet sitter stopping in a couple times a day!!!! Now it's 3 years later and I feel the same way! You provide a service that liberates dog owners! Instead of feeling guilty and dreading my trip, I can look forward to it knowing that my dog will be loved and looked after as well as she is at home (or better!)! You have created a perfect dog haven in your home!! Toys, treats, play, and relaxation!! You know just how to ease Gwenabwy into the mix of dogs at your house in a safe and comfortable way, keeping in mind the size, temperament, and personality of each dog! Gwenabwy has made some good dog friends at your house!! She has also made some good human friends! I know you love dogs, and it's obvious from the photos that your husband, Jim, does too! The photos you e-mailed me when I was in Montana certainly reassured me that all was well--Gwenabwy was all cuddled up next to Jim on the couch! It was just like at home with our family!! Likewise, when I dropped Gwenabwy off, you asked me where she slept at home and I said "under my bed." What a surprise when you replied, "Then that's where she'll sleep here!" Amazing!! Just like at home! You are obviously extremely knowledgeable about dogs, dog health, and dog-training! (Thanks for the tip about adding a tablespoon of pumpkin to Gwenabwy's meals for added fiber--what a life-saver!!) Gwenabwy is always happy and fit when I pick her up! I think it's all that playtime!! If I were a dog, I would want to stay at your house too! Thanks for being ...the Furry Godmother! All the best, PS--Did I mention, my husband, Frederic, is a veterinarian? He recommends you too!!!!!
It has been almost four years since our Max joined our family. Max is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, with a personality that I could only describe as sweet, calm and very loving. My wife, Judy, and I still cannot believe how he became such an integral member of our family; yes, we just love him. When Max joined us, I was semi-retired while Judy continued to teach school up until nine months ago when she also retired. So now was our time to do some serious traveling. At first, we took short trips and placed Max into a commercial care setting. We checked out each of the centers carefully, but always felt that their environments didnt provide the personal care that we wanted for Max. Finally, in September of last year - 2007, we committed to a three week tour of China. We were very concerned about Maxs care for such a long period and looked into friends, relatives and our own children for his extended stay. In each case, things just didnt work out. Through word of mouth we stumbled onto Marie, Maxs and our furry-godmother. Max first visited with Marie just to make sure they liked one another and then the big day arrived when Max moved in. Max is not particularly fond of change, but he adapted to Maries home immediately. Why not, her home is truly a lovely place, very dog friendly and a safe and loving environment. When we arrived at Maries home to pick Max up, he was very happy to see us and gave Judy his typical greeting, a big extended hug. After his greeting, instead of sticking to us like glue, Max returned to his friends then jumped up onto the window sill in Maries living room for some sun. This was a very happy dog who didnt seem ready to go home. Marie goes out of her way to insure that the dogs have fun time while in her care. They take trips to the park and her husband and son even join in for play time. We were delighted to get a report card and photos of Maxs stay now we understand why he was reluctant to leave! We are now preparing to leave for Amsterdam to see the tulips. We can go feeling confident that Maxs care could not be in better hands. Only a true pet lover can understand our feelings and concerns about our little doggie. With Marie in the picture, we can enjoy our time away, and the same goes for Max. Thank you Marie, youre the best. Mike and Judy
"To all fellow pets and their people: I would like to convey my sincere appreciation for the wonderful caregiver I have found for my boys. I happened upon Maries business services when my cat, Ambler, was ill. I was planning a weekend away, and I was in desperate need of someone to care for him and give him his medication every day. As luck would have it, Amblers veterinarian suggested the Furry-Godmother. Marie arrived at my house on extreme short notice and I knew instantly that my boys would be in great hands. I also have 2 birds. Poncho, my 30 year old Scarlet Macaw, is rather ornery and picky about whom he chooses to become friends with. The other feathered friend, Razzy, is a 20 year old Cockatiel and his disposition is quite opposite of Ponchos. Both birds can provide hours of entertainment and enlightening conversation. Marie provided excellent care for the boys that first weekend. Unfortunately, Ambler is no longer with us. Even though his memory does not diminish, his spot on the couch is now occupied by another cat, Pierre. Every time Marie visits the boys, she manages to work her way farther into Pierres, Ponchos and Razzys hearts. They sure appreciate the value of a good friend and caregiver. For the past two years (since 2004), the boys and I have relied on Marie for their care whenever I travel. It is such a relief to know that they are in the comfort of their own home and they are given the attention as well if not better than if I were there. We feel strongly that we all benefited when Marie made the decision to leave her life in the corporate world so that she could join us and our various animal friends and family. Thank you, Marie ! " Wendy, Poncho, Razzy and Pierre
In September 2005 I was getting a puppy for company to my 7-yr old Pomeranian (Brandy) and wanted to find someone to take out the puppy (Sheiann) in the middle of the day. In my search, miraculously, I found Marie, alias Furry Godmother. She is so genuinely caring toward my two K9 babies. When I say to my dogs wheres Marie, Brandy spins around and wags her tail. My dogs stayed overnight this weekend, and I could tell they had been loved and spoiled rotten. I was surprised when Marie handed me a portfolio with a collage of pictures of my dogs adventures while staying there. I feel so good about entrusting my dogs to the Furry Godmother. I know she provides the same love and care I give to my K9 children, if not better. I feel very fortunate to find Marie to care for my K9 babies. Sincerely,
Hello Animal Lovers! Our puppy's name is Rufus Hemi. I have to say that Marie is awesome! When my sister and I found out about her and went to her home with Rufus, we got a great safe feeling from her, her husband and her home! When I went home and told my husband about everything, he was kind of hesitant. But I was able to get my husband to join me to go back over there and he was amazed and felt the same way I did! Rufus loves it too! We are happy we found a loving home for Rufus while we are away or when we need! Its a very safe comforting feeling not having to worry about your dog! Thank you Marie! The Latare's
In Tribute to Marie - A Dog Groomer's Tale I have known Marie Ford for quite some time, even before she emerged as the " Furry Godmother." I am a dog groomer by profession and Marie came to me first as a client. We quickly became friends and later, I became her client. In the course of my business, I meet dog lovers of all types. My own feelings for them are described by my husband as " obsessive." Nonetheless, I have yet to meet anyone whose devotion and caring for our four legged friends exceeds Marie's. Both she and her family have structured their home and their lives around making their wards comfortable. She has provided fences and gates to keep them safe and a retractable awning to keep them dry and toys and treats to keep them happy. She calls and gives status reports to comfort the owners and takes pictures to chronicle the occasion. But most importantly, she treats her guests as though they were her own, with the same love and attention that she gives to her treasured Baxter and Rudy. Marie has cared for my own dogs countless times and there is no greater testimony to her success than that given by my beloved Lhasa Apso, Crystal, who passed from our care in December of 2003. When I would drop Crystal at Marie's, she would hit the ground running and bark at the door for admission. She never even looked back to see if I was there. Moreover, when I would go to pick her up, she didn't want to leave. I am finding the same response in our new puppy, Rosie, who loves being with the Furry Godmother and running and playing with Baxter and Rudy. If you want your pet to be treated as you would treat them (or maybe even better), then look no further. The Furry Godmother is the girl for you! Lynne F.
"The Furry Godmother is Sent from Heaven My husband and I went on vacation to Jamaica from February 12-25th and Prisca, our Maltese and Samson, our teacup shitzu stayed with the Furry Godmother (aka Marie Ford) for the first time. They are 9 1/2 and 10 1/2 months old and they had the time of their little lives!!! Furry Godmother goes BEYOND good love and care for your kids. She called us at least four or five times in Jamaica just to let us know how the babies were and to let us say woof! woof! to them over the phone. Samson would bark and Prisca would lick the phone, so we know they heard us. We both had happy tears in our eyes every time we hung up. She also e-mailed us pictures throughout our stay to let us share in their fun with Baxter, Rudy, Bower and the other four legged little people staying there!! Baxter and Rudy are Marie's malteses' and they love to play!!! Your kids I am sure will also love playing with them and having a barking contest or two along the way. My puppies are like my babies since I never had any and my concerns for their care is just as intense as any new mommy. She has the most awesome setup for your kids. I'll bet your babies hate to go out in the rain to wee-wee---no problem here, Mon---Furry Godmother has a big remote retractable awning so baby does not have to get wet. It is too cool! Furry Godmother and her husband and son will pamper and love and cuddle and adore your little ones just as you do. We know in our hearts that Prisca and Samson had one pure vacation from Heaven. We all cherish the Furry Godmother and feel certain everyone else will feel the same!!! Sandy & Ben T.
"Dear Marie, It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation about you and your services. My "Girls" are very important to me. In fact, I would say this is a gross understatement! My husband and I love to travel and it was becoming a huge problem for my fury "children." Marie, you have made it possible for me and my family to go away with out worrying about the"girls" and for that we are very, very grateful. Many people have actually offered to watch them for me, but I would not leave them with just anyone. So believe me Marie, you have to be pretty darn terrific to make me happy! You provide a clean, safe and loving environment for Nala and Bauer and I hope that you are never to busy because of this letter to take care of them for me! Thank you so much for being there when I need you. And feel free to give out my phone number for those worried Mom's or Dad's that would like more information. Yours very truly,
"Marie calls herself the Furry Godmother, I call her my angel from heaven. She is a gift to the dog owner who can't always be home to administer to their "furry babies" I am an active exhibitor and worker at AKC Dog Shows. This hobby takes me away from home for some pretty long days. Marie enables me to pursue this passion knowing that my own dogs are well taken care of while I am away for the day. I have five dogs ranging in age from 2 years to 11 years old. One of my dogs is a rescue who dislikes almost everyone - she adores Marie. My biggest complaint is that sometimes the dogs are better behaved for Marie than they are for me. They adore her and love when she comes over and plays with them. Marie gives me peace of mind when my schedule takes me away from home for more than a few hours. I know my dogs are well cared for in my absence and getting the love and attention they deserve. Marlene
"Dear Potential Furry Godmother Client, Almost a year ago, I was told by my company I would no longer be able to work from my home, and we were opening an office about 35 minutes from my home. I was panicked because my husband works long hours and we have 2 dogs that had gotten spoiled by me being home 90% of the day. One of our dogs is not in the best health, a 12 year old schnauzer that suffers from diabetes, and has a weak bladder, and our other dog is an 8 year old cockapoo that is extremely sensitive to his surroundings. I went to my vet. office to inquire if they knew anyone they could refer me to. That is how we found Marie! I spoke with her on the phone, and we set up an appointment for her to meet our boys. Marie is an animal lover, you can tell immediately. The boys ran up to her, she came with treats, and tails were wagging! Since August of 2003, Marie has been such an important part of our family. I go to work knowing she will arrive like clockwork, let my boys out, play with them and love them. We completely trust her with the care of our dogs. The occasional day she may need off, she gives us plenty of notice, and always has a backup plan in case we cannot make arrangements. Our schnauzer has had recent health issues, and Marie has been very sensitive with any changes in his behavior, as well as his diet restrictions. Our cockapoo has learned new tricks, and both our boys get surprise toys from Marie that they love! Marie has been an absolute angel to work with and we dont know (and dont want to think about) what we would do without her! Sincerely,
"March 26, 2004 Dear Marie: What can I say about the care and love that the Furry Godmother has given to my Labrador Max. Marie, the attention and love that you provide Max is exceptional. My workday is extremely long, and knowing that I can depend on you daily to come into my home, walk, play, and love Max means the world to me. The special attention you pay to Max does not go unnoticed. He looks forward to your visit every day, and I know he loves you very much. Again, what can I say about the Furry Godmother except I'm thankful for you Marie, and for the special love and attention you give to my very special pooch. Sincerely,
"The Furry Godmother, Marie, comes every Tuesday to walk my dog, Lucy, because I am gone all day. Tuesday morning when I wake up, I tell Lucy, "Marie is coming today!" Lucy gets so excited and starts jumping around! She really looks forward to seeing her Furry Godmother! Marie is very reliable and there have been no problems at all. She always leaves a note behind to let me know she was here, and she brings in the mail and any packages that may have arrived. A couple of times she has even brought Lucy a new toy. She is very accommodating if I have to change days or add an extra day once in awhile. When I went away for a couple of weeks this winter, and because Lucy's size was beyond what Marie can care for in her own home, she found a loving "home away from home" with her neighbor so that Lucy did not have to go to a kennel. Marie seems to really love and care for her "clients". I am most happy to highly recommend The Furry Godmother. Ruth & Lucy"
"The Furry Godmother has walked our basset hound, Murphy, for the past four months. Over the course of this time we have come to know her as a reliable and loving caregiver. She leaves personalized notes to tell us how the walk went and has even left toys for Murphy on many occasions. We greatly appreciate the special care and attention she gives Murphy. He is happy and comfortable when we get home. It is reassuring to know that he is in such good hands when we cannot be with him. Our experience with the Furry Godmother has been nothing but positive! Murphy's Mom"
"Our recommendation for the Furry Godmother - When you are away, your pets become her pets. The same love and care you give are given by Marie. Your house is safe, your pets are fed, played with, (medicated, if needed) and loved and you can enjoy your time away guilt-free. She is the best! Nancy and Bill F.
